Hyderabad: HCA President Mohammed Azharuddin has decided to add six new members from the District quota in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). This decision was taken in view of the increase in the number of districts in Telangana.
The president pointed out that after the formation of Telangana as a State, 33 districts were formed. “The HCA, which is responsible for the management and development of cricket in Telangana has ten districts as its members, modelled on erstwhile combined state of Andhra Pradesh in which Telangana had ten districts.’’
According to Azharuddin, it is imperative that HCA membership should be co-terminus with the reorganization of the districts to ensure equitable distribution of resources and opportunities that will enable youngsters from remote areas to learn and exhibit their skills which will help realize their dreams. “Telangana Cricket Association which has been active in the districts by organizing tournaments in all districts, except Hyderabad, has been strongly pitching with the BCCI through court orders to grant associate membership to them. If this happens, HCA will lose its relevance in all districts in the state of Telangana except Hyderabad,’’ said Azharuddin.
He further stated that objects and purpose of HCA in two (D) states are to encourage the formation of districts, regional or other cricket associations and the organisations of inter-district and other tournaments to lay down norms for recognition which achieve uniformity in the structure functioning and processes of the members association.
“In Line with the implementation of the above vision of the state and the scope of HCA as outlined in 1 (A) (ii), I purpose to extend the membership of districts in HCA by adding the following districts to the existing membership: Mancherial (Valla Sharath Chandra), Sangareddy (Bikshapathi Matam), Vikarabad (Buddula Shravan Reddy), Kamareddy (Dadannagari Sandeep Kumar), Jagtial (Dava Suresh), Siddipet (Kalkuntla Mallikarjun).’’
According to Azharuddin, the members named in the list have been appointed as ad-hoc secretaries to manage cricket in the above districts.
However, secretary R Vijayanand rejected the proposal of Azharuddin. “All these things can be finalized at a proper platform like the AGM, SGM or Apex Council. The president has no authorization from the HCA and no individual can take such decisions,’’ he said.
