Azhar says Tuesday’s Apex Council meeting did not have official approval
HCA president said that the Apex Council cannot decide the composition of the five junior selectors because the decision has to be taken at the Annual General Meeting
Hyderabad: Hyderabad Cricket Association president Mohammed Azharuddin said on Tuesday that the Apex Council meeting did not have the official approval. “They also cannot hold the February 26 meeting without informing me. I have to say yes and only then can they go ahead with the meeting. I’m going by the rules. They cannot send any agendas at the last minute. When I asked them to hold the Apex Council meeting on January 19 they did not agree,” said Azharuddin while talking to Telangana Today.
He further said: “They cannot hold this meeting because the agenda which they gave was for an emergency meeting. When you have an Apex Council meeting, they need to discuss with the president and only then can you circulate the agenda. When the meeting is cancelled, it stands cancelled. I’m the head of the association. Everything has to go through me. I want to run the affairs in a way that is good for the association.”
Azhar added that the Apex Council cannot decide the composition of the five junior selectors because the decision has to be taken at the Annual General Meeting. “When they say the Ombudsman has to go to AGM, then even the selectors have to go there. The term of the junior selectors was for one year only.”
On the team selection for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Azhar said, “The selectors who were named were not coming, what am I supposed to do? Everybody wants money. In fact, I had to select the team for the tournament with the two selectors available or else our association would have been rusticated for not sending the team.”
He pointed out that the Apex Council should not interfere in cricketing matters. “I have played more cricket than them. I know my cricket. I did not become captain of the Indian team overnight. I had to work for it. How many in the committee have played first class cricket? They have to work with me when it comes to cricketing matters,” Azhar said.
