Badangpet property owners seek LRS deadline extension as civic staff engaged in SIR duties

Property owners in Badangpet, Hyderabad, are struggling to obtain Layout Regularization Scheme (LRS) orders despite completing payments, as municipal staff are occupied with electoral roll revision duties. With the July 31 deadline approaching, residents are demanding an extension, citing delays caused by staff deputation for Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

Hyderabad: Property owners who have applied for Layout Regularization Scheme (LRS) with Badangpet municipality are a worried lot these days with the civic body personnel being busily engaged with the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

The property owners allege that they are facing difficulties in obtaining LRS orders despite completing payments. With July 31 being the deadline to close the window for the LRS, property owners in Badangpet seek an extension of the deadline, stating that civic body staff were fully engaged in the SIR and not in a position to pay attention to their applications.

The Telangana government announced a discount window for LRS on May 1 to regularise unauthorised, unapproved, or illegal land plots and layouts across the state, with a 25% rebate on LRS fees.

The issue emerged after some property owners availed the facility and paid the fee to regularise their land parcels, and received SMS alerts stating the payments were done successfully, but the LRS orders were not received.

S Seetharama Raju of Badangpet said he completed the process under the LRS, including payment of the fee and other charges after receiving a 25% discount, but alleged the official orders by Badangpet municipality officials were delayed inordinately. He said property owners have been making repeated rounds of the Badangpet municipal office to obtain the orders.

According to him, the officials told them they were attending additional duties related to the SIR and could not attend to their regular duties. When contacted, the municipal officials conceded that over 70% of the staff had been deputed as Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for the ongoing SIR process, leaving only skeletal staff at the office.

“SIR is also one of the important tasks and cannot be skipped. The extension of the LRS date is under the purview of the State government,” a senior Badangpet town planning official said.
