Hyderabad: The Telangana Prisons Department on Sunday dismissed as “baseless, false and without any factual foundation” allegations that the Superintendent of Central Prison, Chanchalguda, had allegedly accepted a bribe to help a rowdy-sheeter involved in an advocate’s murder secure bail and was assisting him in planning further attacks.
In a statement, Deputy Inspector General of Prisons Dr. D. Srinivas said the department strongly refuted allegations of corruption, collusion or extending undue favours to any prisoner.
He clarified that granting bail was the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts and the prison authorities had no role in deciding or granting bail to any accused or inmate. The jail administration only implemented orders issued by competent judicial authorities in accordance with rules and procedures.
The department said any person with specific evidence regarding the allegations could approach the competent authorities for verification and necessary action.
Dr. Srinivas said unauthorised meetings or gatherings of prisoners were not allowed inside prison premises and that inmates were managed according to security classification and prison rules. He added that strict action would be taken against any prisoner or staff member found violating regulations or attempting to facilitate unlawful activities.
