Hyderabad: Several bakeries in the city have slashed the prices of cakes ahead of the New Year festivities in the city on Tuesday.

A prominent bakery at Nampally announced that it has slashed down the prices of the two of its varieties of cakes by a whooping fifty per cent on eve of the New Year. The offer is available for Tuesday and Wednesday.

In the old city, small bakeries have adopted a similar business trick to amplify their sales. The Baba Bakery at Engine Bowli is offering a cake weighing one kilogram for Rs. 199 a kilogram and along with the order handing over a one litre soft drink bottle worth Rs. 40 for free.

A kilometre away from this place at Vattepally, at the Saba Bakery, one can buy a regular cake weighing one kilogram for Rs. 150. The owner of the bakery said they have slashed down the price as a ‘gift’ to their loyal customers who throng the place in huge number on December 31.

At Delight Sweets and Bakery, at Hafeez Babanagar, the owners announced ‘one plus one offer’. One every purchase of a cake of one kilogram, the bakery is giving one cake free.

Al Kaif Bakery, at Tallabkatta one can get the one kilogram cake for Rs. 299 and you get a ‘snow spray bottle’ for free. At Max Bakery, Phisalbanda, the owners price one-and-half kilogram of cake for Rs. 250 with half litre butterscotch ice-cream as free accompaniment.

At Maxxams Bakery at Amberpet, cake weighing 1.5 kilograms is priced at Rs. 300 and one litre butter scotch ice is handed over for free.

Similar offers have also been announced by various other bakeries in the city due to tough competition among the bakers on New Year. “Sales are comparatively high on the New Year occasion in old city. Some bakers report 1000 per cent and even more increase in sale of cakes, so they slash the prices to increase the sales,” said a bakery owner.

However, some prominent bakers have not hiked the prices to cash upon the demand. “Although we have hired more bakers to prepare cake and cater to the demand, we have not increased the price and the products are available at the same price,” said owner of popular bakery at Charminar.
