Hyderabad: Traffic flowed smoothly, in the real sense of the word, on Wednesday through the Narsapur Crossroads and Fathenagar Junction, dreaded for the traffic snarls till Tuesday. That, in short, was one of the immediate impacts of the Babu Jagjivan Ram Flyover in Balanagar. People commuting from Secunderabad to Kukatpally and back are now a relieved lot, thanks to the 1.13-km six-lane two-way flyover built under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP). Their joy is being shared by people living in residential localities that fall on either side of the flyover too.
Prashanti Nagar, Moosapet, IDPL, Navajeevan Nagar ( Ferozguda), BK Guda (Balkampet), Fathenagar, parts of Sanath Nagar and Kukatpally are some places where the flyover is showing its impact on traffic. It is also turning out to be a major relief to people visiting the Balkampet Yellamma Temple too as the main roads leading to the temple will be less congested.
There are several commercial establishments on the Balanagar road and parking issues near these outlets too are seeing some respite, according to shopkeepers. “The traffic jam used to start near Bowenpally and would continue till Kukatpally. Since there are several hospitals on the way, ambulances getting stuck in the traffic was a regular sight. Hopefully that won’t happen again. With dozens of schools, commercial establishments and houses, this flyover has provided much needed relief, putting an end to our commuting woes,” says B Satish, a resident of Fathenagar.
The flyover has also helped scores of commuters working in factories in Jeedimetla too as the traffic on the main road is now moving quite smoothly.
