Himachal Pradesh governor Bandaru Dattatreya is being presented portrait of Nagoba by elders of Mesram clan on the premises of Nagoba temple at Keslapur village of Indervelli mandal on Monday.
Adilabad: Himachal Pradesh governor Bandaru Dattatreya visited Nagoba temple and offered prayers at Keslapur village in Indervelli mandal on Monday. He was accompanied by Forest Minister Indrakaran Reddy.
Dattatreya visited the shrine and performed special prayers to the presiding deity. He offered harathi to the serpent god. He was later presented a portrait of Nagoba by members and elders of the Mesram clan for visiting the temple. He was received by Collector Sikta Patnaik and Superintendent of Police Vishnu S Warrier in Adilabad.
Speaking on the occasion, the governor said that the ethnic tribes must be developed on many fronts. He expressed happiness over the State government’s efforts to uplift the indigenous peoples by extending a slew of schemes. He opined that the government may grant ownership certificate to the tribals who were tilling forest lands.
Dattatreya recalled that he had taken steps for studying script and culture of Raj Gonds when he had worked as Union minister way back in 1982. He observed that Adivasis deserve better healthcare and education facilities and sought the government to implement laws meant for tribals and promulgated by the Union government. He wished the aboriginal tribals lead a happy life.
Indrakaran Reddy said that the State government was implementing various schemes for the welfare of ethnic tribes. He cited Rights of Forest Rights Act-2005, providing rights to the tribals over the forest lands. He claimed that the government had granted Rs 6 crore for renovating Nagoba temple. He recounted that he had worked with Dattatreya in 1998.
In the meantime, SC Corporation chairman Errolla Srinivas too thronged the shrine. He was received by priests and members of the Mesram clan. He said that traditions and culture were unique and one could draw inspiration from them. He stated that the government was committed for the growth of Adivasis.
