Hyderabad: State BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Monday demanded that the State government immediately release four persons who were detained under Preventive Detention (PD) Act in connection with the violence in Bhainsa since the High Court had struck down the case against them.

Finding fault with the police for invoking the PD Act against them, the High Court struck down the case, he said. Welcoming the High Court’s decision, Sanjay thanked the advocates who argued the cases on behalf of the four persons – Longoji, Rakesh, Vijay and Kranthi.

Stating that the Supreme Court had also expressed concern over misuse of the Act, Sanjay alleged that instead of invoking the PD Act against anti-social elements, the police were using it against innocent youth in the State to appease a particular party.

He advised the police officials to work independently and ensure that the rights granted to them by the Constitution should not be violated.

In a separate statement, Sanjay demanded the State government withdraw G.O. 317 since it was causing local status problems to government employees.
