Hyderabad: BRS MLC K Kavitha criticised Union Minister Bandi Sanjay for allegedly refusing funds for housing projects in Telangana, calling it a violation of the federal spirit enshrined in the Constitution. She condemned the statement, asserting that it undermines the rights of States and contradicts constitutional principles.

Sanjay Kumar had recently declared that no houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana will be sanctioned to Telangana if the Congress government in the State names it after Indira Gandhi, referring to the Indiramma housing programme.

Speaking at a seminar organised by the student division of Telangana Jagruti here on Sunday, Kavitha emphasised the importance of constitutional safeguards.

Nineteen resolutions were passed at the seminar, including those on protecting rights, ensuring transparency in governance, and implementing directive principles. These resolutions, along with a letter from Kavitha, will be submitted to Governor Jishnu Dev Varma by students.

Questioning the Centre’s approach, the BRS MLC asked, “If a Union Minister himself says ‘not a single house’ will be sanctioned for Telangana, where is the federal spirit in the Constitution?” She called for accountability from leaders at the national level.

Turning her focus to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Kavitha criticised his silence on constitutional violations in Telangana. “Rahul Gandhi carries the Constitution like a pocket diary, yet he remains silent on Telangana’s plight. As Congress is in power in Telangana, start by protecting the Constitution here,” she remarked.

She also pointed to the Congress government’s apathy during communal riots in Asifabad, where internet services were suspended for months, and affected families received no compensation. “Neither the Chief Minister nor his Ministers visited the victims. Constitutional values are being trampled,” she stated.
