Suryapet: As part of the two-day strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions, bank employees on Thursday boycotted their duties in the district demanding the Centre withdraw its plan to privatize the public sector banks. The bank employees took out a bike rally in the town by displaying placards on their demand. Speaking on the occasion, the union leader Ithagoni Mahesh said that privatisation of banks would lead to decrease of interest on deposits, a hike in service charges and an increase of minimum balance in the bank accounts.
It would also impact the implementation of some welfare schemes and every service would also be charged causing a financial burden on the account holders. The Centre also conspired to close the bank branches in the rural areas in the name of privatisation of the public sector banks, he said. He also asked the public and account holders to support the agitation of the bank employees against privatisation of the public sector banks.
