“I started volunteering when I was 16. Later when my friend started an NGO, we started environmental activism, blood donations, giving essentials to old age homes and more. We slowly progressed to giving resources to orphanages, running a free schooling centre and established a system in college that is running even now,” he shares.

Dheeraj later became a core member of several NGOs in the city, working to rehabilitate beggars, educating the underprivileged, lake cleanups, animal adoption and birth control and more, before taking up healthcare activities as well. “I also worked for NGOs that were into helping cancer and AIDS patients and since March, I have been totally involved in combating Covid,” shares the banker.

Dheeraj, who has ended up being the go-to person for oxygen related necessities on various resource groups, is also a key person on various groups, when it comes to finding hospitals and medical resources. “I head the oxygen team at one resource group but I basically handle anything that comes my way. In the past few weeks, we have not been handling requests for drugs, in accordance with the government guidelines and instead, we are guiding the requesters on how to procure the drugs through the proper channel,” he shares.
