Hyderabad: In the wake of a writ petition filed in the Supreme Court challenging the State government’s order extending 42 per cent reservations to Backward Classes (BCs), BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar met Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and apprised him of the latest developments.
Later, the Minister held a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, and TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud to discuss the implications of the petition.
Apart from the case in the Supreme Court, two related petitions have been filed in the Telangana High Court. The next hearing of these cases is scheduled for October 8. The apex court is also likely to hear the writ petition filed by V Gopal Reddy, a resident of Rajanna Sircilla district, on Monday.
With multiple petitions pending before the courts, the Congress government finds itself in a tight spot. Besides uncertainty over the implementation of the 42 per cent BC quota, concerns are also mounting over the possible delay in conducting local body elections.
