BCCI exploring options for possible batting coach for Team India; ‘Available’ says Kevin Pietersen

Hyderabad: Buzz around the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) considering appointing an additional support staff member in the form of a batting coach is increasing by the hour.
According to a report on Cricbuzz, the BCCI is looking for a supporting member for the coaching team headed by Gautam Gambhir.
The home series whitewash against New Zealand and the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) loss in Australia, where the hosts won 3-1, have led to discussions about a specialist batting coach being roped in. Frequent batting collapses and big guns like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma failing to impress repeatedly have emphasized the need for a batting coach for the team.
According to reports, several names are being considered for the position, which could play a crucial role in improving the team’s overall performance, especially in the batting department.
A Times of India report suggested that Sitanshu Kotak, a former domestic star and the current head coach of India A, is being considered for the position.
Meanwhile, former English captain and star batter Kevin Pietersen has shown interest in the job. Pietersen, who is currently part of the SA20 broadcasting team in South Africa, announced that he was “available” for the role of India’s batting coach.
Popularly known as KP, the English batsman has an impressive record of scoring over 8,000 runs in 104 Tests at an average of 47.28. He also has 23 centuries to his name. He has also scored 4,440 runs in 136 ODIs at an average of 40.73 and 1,176 runs in 37 T20Is at a strike rate of 140.
