Bengaluru: A 14-year-old boy was murdered by his maternal uncle in a shocking case linked to online gaming addiction. The incident occurred in Vinayaka Layout, under the Soladevanahalli police limits. The victim, identified as Amoghakeerthi, had been living with his maternal uncle, Nagaprasad (50), for the past eight months.
According to the police, the boy was addicted to online games and frequently pestered his uncle for money to play. Frustrated by the repeated demands, Nagaprasad allegedly slit the boy’s throat around 4:30 am on Monday (August 4) before fleeing the house. He reportedly travelled towards Majestic and remained there for three days.
On Thursday night, Nagaprasad surrendered at the Soladevanahalli police station. When the police visited the house, they found Amoghakeerthi’s body in a decomposed state, suggesting it had remained unattended since the day of the murder.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed that the boy had assaulted him about a week earlier following a quarrel over money. He claimed the incident had deeply disturbed him, ultimately driving him to commit the murder. Nagaprasad also told the police that he had contemplated jumping into a lake to end his life after the incident but did not have the funds to travel further.
The police have registered a case and taken Nagaprasad into custody. A detailed investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the crime.
The case has drawn attention to the growing issue of online gaming addiction among minors and the severe consequences it can have on families. Officers said a post-mortem examination would be conducted to determine the exact time and cause of death. Authorities are also probing whether there were earlier signs of conflict between the accused and the victim in the days leading up to the crime.
