Bhadrachalam: The historic Sri Sita Ramachandra Swamy Temple here has planned to establish a solar power plant, on the temple premises to meet its energy needs. A proposal has been sent to the Endowments Commissioner seeking the approval for setting up the solar plant. The works of installing the solar power plant will be commenced soon after the permission was given by the Endowments Commissioner.

Bhadradri Devasthanam Executive Officer (EO) B Sivaji said the engineering officials explained the necessity of a solar power plant at the temple to the Endowment Commissioner V  Anil Kumar during his recent visit to the temple and he asked to submit a proposal.

Speaking to Telangana Today the department’s Deputy Engineer, E Ravindranath informed that the approval from the Commissioner is expected by the end of February month. It is planned to set up a 400 kilowatt power plant.

If the solar power plant is set up at the Bhadradri, the temple will become the first Hindu shrine in Telangana to harness solar energy to meet its power needs, though it cannot meet the entire power needs of the temple.

The solar plant may reduce the power bills by Rs 30 lakh to Rs 40 lakh annually. The temple has been spending an average of one crore rupees annually on power bills and the solar power plant may ease the financial burden on the temple, he explained. And reducing the power bill may help the authorities to manage their finances. The officials informed that they have finalised a private firm to install the power plant and are holding talks with the firm to reach an agreement with it.
