Nirmal: The son of vice-chairman of Bhainsa municipality was booked for allegedly assaulting a woman over a property dispute in Bhainsa town on Tuesday.

Bhainsa police said the accused was Ameer, son of Jabeer Ahmed, vice-chairman of Bhainsa civic body and councilor of AIMIM party. The complainants were Gangadar, Krishna and Devbai, residents of Bhainsa town.

Sources said Ameer and his associates thrashed Devbai after entering into a heated argument over a piece of land situated in survey number 503 in the town. Their act was recorded on a mobile phone and the clip went viral on social media platforms, triggering mild tension between two sections of society in the communally sensitive town.

The police, however, swung into action and pacified the groups. Nirmal ASP Ram Reddy told reporters that more details of the incident would be disclosed on Wednesday. He appealed to the civilians not to believe in rumours and indulge in violent acts. He stated that law and order of the town was fully under control.

Ram Reddy warned that stern action would be taken against those who provoke public sentiments using the incident. Investigations are on and the culprits would be punished as per the law, he said.
