Khammam: The ‘Bharat Bandh’ called by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), the joint front of different farmers’ unions protesting against the farm laws, evoked good response in Khammam and Kothagudem districts. The leaders and workers of Left parties, the Congress and the TDP took to the streets at different places in both the districts in support of the bandh. A massive dharna was staged at Khammam RTC bus stand by the parties, disrupting the bus services.

The CPI and CPI (M) State secretariat members B Hemantha Rao and P Sudarshan Rao, CPI (ML) New Democracy State leader R Chandrashekar addressing the gathering on the occasion demanded the Modi government to immediately withdraw the farm laws. Though the Central government was claiming that the farm laws would increase the income of the farmers, the true objective behind the laws was to benefit the private corporate companies, they alleged.

The farmers’ agitation which began on November 26 last year was getting intensified day by day. But the BJP-led NDA government was turning a blind eye towards the protests, they said. Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of acting as an agent of corporate forces, the Left parties leaders noted that the people of the country were realising the true colours of the Modi government, which was going ahead with a massive drive to privatise public sector entities.
Modi should change his autocratic attitude and withdraw the farm laws with immediate effect, they demanded. Congress leader P Durga Prasad, TDP leader K Venkateshwarlu, district secretaries of CPI and CPM P Prasad and N Nageshwar Rao and others were present.
