Bharat Biotech ships out Covaxin to 11 cities

Hyderabad: Hyderabad-headquartered biotech company Bharat Biotech said it air-shipped the first batch of Covaxin to 11 cities in India in the early hours of Wednesday.
After having received the government purchase order for 55 lakh doses, Bharat Biotech shipped the first batch of vaccines (each vial containing 20 doses) to Gannavaram, Guwahati, Patna, Delhi, Kurukshetra, Bengaluru, Pune, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur, Chennai and Lucknow.
As per the price agreement with the government, the vaccine is sold at Rs 295 per dose for 55 lakh doses while the company has donated 16.5 lakh doses to the Government of India.
The company did not disclose the exact volume of shipment to these 11 cities. Hyderabad is among the 12 cities that are covered under the government purchase order.
Covaxin is a purified and inactivated 2 dose SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, manufactured in a vero cell manufacturing platform with a safety track record of more than 300 million doses, the company said.
The Covid-19 vaccine is indigenously developed by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) – National Institute of Virology (NIV). It is manufactured at the company’s BSL-3 (Bio-Safety Level 3) biocontainment facility.
