BHEL, Norway’s Hystar partner for PEM electrolyser manufacturing in India

BHEL and Norway-based Hystar AS have entered into a strategic tie-up for phased indigenisation and local manufacturing of PEM electrolyser systems in India. The collaboration will strengthen BHEL’s capabilities in green hydrogen projects and enable it to offer both PEM and alkaline solutions.

Sangareddy: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Hystar AS, Norway, have entered into a strategic tie-up which will enable phased indigenisation and local manufacturing of PEM electrolyser systems for green hydrogen projects in India.

Executive Director of Heavy Power Equipment Plant at BHEL Hyderabad, Y Srinivas Rao, and General Manager and Head (new and renewable energy business) Sutripto De, on behalf of BHEL, and CEO of Hystar Fredrik Mowill signed the agreement in the presence of Arvinn Eikeland Gadgil, Chargé d’Affaires, Royal Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi.

BHEL has already entered into a strategic tie-up with Thyssenkrupp Nucera India for alkaline electrolyser systems earlier this year. This collaboration with Hystar for PEM electrolyser systems further strengthens BHEL’s position as one of the few Indian players capable of offering both alkaline and PEM electrolyser solutions to serve the country’s emerging green hydrogen market. Moreover, the collaboration will also strengthen BHEL’s project execution capabilities for green hydrogen projects in India.
