Hyderabad: The Bhim Army, led by Telangana general secretary Syed Ali Ayaj, has extended support to the ‘rail roko’ protest by Telangana Jagruthi and United Phule Front on July 17, demanding 42 per cent reservations for BCs in local bodies, education and employment. Bhim Army national chief and MP Chandrashekhar Azad has also endorsed the agitation.
Telangana Jagruthi president and BRS MLC K Kavitha called on civil society and social organisations to unite for the cause, emphasising the need to pressure the Centre for Presidential approval for the reservation Bills. She said that both the Legislative Assembly and Council had passed the Bills seeking to enhance BC reservations, but the Centre had kept them pending without Presidential assent.
“We will not tolerate further delays. The only way to shake the Delhi rulers is through people’s movement,” she said, warning that the Congress government would face a public backlash if it attempted to conduct local body elections without implementing BC quotas.
