Four of the accused – Talluri Krishna, Mankidi Lingaraju, Mudiga Ramulu and Kalthi Errababu – have already been arrested, he said, adding that the police would stand by the affected families and that the money collected from them would be recovered from the accused and returned to the families.

The accused formed a gang claiming that they were members of the OPDR Bhoodan Committee. They collected lakhs of rupees from families, saying that they would be given housing plots on Bhoodan lands. Later, they illegally occupied Bhoodan, government, and private patta lands and built sheds. As many as 15 cases were registered against the gang in the past. The investigation was going on, and those who were cheated by the gang should file complaints with the police, the CP added.
