Jayashankar Bhupalpally/Mulugu: District Collector S Krishna Aditya said the district administration will extend full support to the Rural Development Trust (RDT), Anantapur, in its efforts for the development of Chenchu tribals in both Bhupalpally and Mulugu districts. The RDT, which has been striving for the development of Chenchus, who are one of the Primitive Tribal Groups (PGT) in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, will take up construction of 520 houses for the Chenchu tribals in both the districts as a part of their livelihood improvement projects.
The majority of the Chenchus still survive on rats, cats, dogs, squirrels and other animals they hunt. They are leading lives in poverty and far from the civilization.
A team of RDT representatives led by its regional director Shanmukha Rao met the collector at his office in Bhupalpally on Friday. The construction of 96 houses has already been completed, while construction of 102 houses was under progress. The District Collector immediately spoke to Chityala Tahsildar over phone and directed him to take steps immediately to allot land for the construction of six houses at Shantinagar. “We will provide all support to the RDT in the construction of the houses at Ghanpur, Gandhinagar, Ravinagar, Kondampalli, Gollapalli and Papaiahpalli villages and provide electricity and water supply,” he said, and asked the RDT to construct a community hall and also RDT’s filed office at Ghanpur mandal headquarter.
The collector also directed the Tahsildar of Govindaraopet mandal of Mulugu district to take measures to give permission allowing the construction of houses in the lands purchased by the Chenchus and Yanadis.
