Jayashankar Bhupalpally: In a tragic incident, an elderly man and his grandson drowned in a tank at Shankarlapad (Suddagandi project) on the outskirts of Borlagudem-Narsingapur villages in Maha Mutharam mandal in the district on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Bheemuni Bhumaiah (58), and his grandson Rishi (10) of Borlagudem village. It is learnt the duo were crossing the tank to reach their fields, and suddenly Rishi drowned in the waters. In an attempt to rescue him, Bhumaiah also drowned. Villagers alleged that uneven digging of the tank bed during the renovation of the tank by the earth diggers had caused the incident. It may be added here that Bhumaiah’s son Ravi died in a road accident last year. The family members demanded that the government pay Rs 20 lakh ex-gratia to the kin of the Bhumaiah and support them in all possible ways.
