Jayashankar Bhupalpally: With misuse of social media platforms like YouTube, Superintendent of Police (SP) J Surender Reddy has announced that they had set up a special social media monitoring cell in their office and were keeping round-the-clock vigil on suspicious accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp and others.

In a statement issued here on Monday, he said those who misuse social media with an intention to create enmity between groups of religion, caste, and others besides issuing provocative statements that hurt the sentiments of individuals as well as the organisations or parties, will be dealt with sternly. “We will take stern action against those who try to malign the character of women, children and others using fake videos or morphed photos and post them on social media platforms,” he said, and warned the rumour mongers not to post information without verification of the competent authorities or organisations. “I am also appealing to the people to bring issues related to fake news or rumours or posts related to hatred spread by the wrongdoers to the notice of the police for legal action,” he added.
