If this made you drool, then you must have guessed the dish by now. Yes, we are talking about the quintessential Chicken Biryani.
This dish is not just Hyderabadis’ but the favourite of most Indians and has been topping the charts for the last few years. The raging pandemic has not deterred the popularity of the dish.
According to Swiggy’s sixth annual StatEATstics, India ordered two biryanis per second. When we are talking about biryanis, how can Hyderabad not be featured? As per Swiggy, the top dish ordered from the city of Nizams is Chicken Biryani followed by Chicken 65, Paneer Butter Masala, Masala Dosa and Idli.
While in 2020, 90 biryanis were ordered per minute, in 2021, India ordered 115 biryanis per minute, or 2 (1.91) biryanis per second. Chicken Biryani is still the queen of hearts and ordered 4.3 times more than her humble vegetarian counterpart. In terms of debut dish as well Chicken Biryani topped with 4.25 lakh new users in Swiggy ordering it. The Chicken Biryani topped the charts in Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow and Hyderabad, Swiggy said in a statement.
In terms of snacks, the samosa was the winner with 5 million orders on Swiggy which is one Samosa for every New Zealander. The desi Samosa was ordered six times more than Chicken Wings and Pav Bhaji was India’s second favourite snack with 2.1 million orders. However, for night bingers i.e orders post 10 pm, it was all about Cheese Garlic Bread, Popcorn, and French Fries. For the sweet-toothed, Gulab Jamun was the most ordered dessert on Swiggy with 2.1 million orders followed by Rasmalai at 1.27 million orders.
Fun and interesting deliveries:
• A Swiggy Genie travelled 43.3 km to deliver a box of brownies to a customer at the Hyderabad Airport
• Indians ordered enough tomatoes to play the Tomatina festival in Spain for 11 years
• Total Bananas ordered outweighed the Statue of Liberty by 2.6 times
• 1.4 million packets of instant noodles, 3.1 million packets of chocolate, 2.3 million tubs of ice-creams and 6.1 million packets of chips
• The maximum distance travelled by a delivery partner was 55.5 km to deliver a food package in Bangalore.
• The shortest distance was to a store 200 meters away from a customer’s doorstep to pick up a tongue cleaner!
• A biryani lover in Kolkata made a Swiggy Genie delivery partner to travel 39.3 km from home to bring her her favorite Mutton Biryani!
