Mancherial: A BJP candidate, who lost the election to the Mancherial Municipal Corporation, has allegedly taken back cash that he had earlier distributed to voters. A video clip purportedly showing the incident surfaced on social media platforms on Saturday.
Jadi Thirupathi contested on a BJP ticket from Division No. 9 in Seetharampalli under the Mancherial Municipal Corporation. He was defeated by the Congress candidate by a margin of 16 votes.
According to the video widely circulated on WhatsApp and Facebook, his family members and supporters were seen visiting voters in the division with a list of electors. A woman was seen verifying whether the voters had cast their votes in favour of Thirupathi and collecting cash from them.
Several people criticised the candidate for allegedly undermining the spirit of democracy by inducing electors through distribution of money. Thirupathi is alleged to have distributed Rs 3,000 to each voter.
