Nirmal: Forest Minister A Indrakaran Reddy sought clarity from the Union government over procurement of paddy. As per a call given by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, he participated in a day-long protest in Nirmal on Friday.
Addressing a gathering, Indrakaran said that the protest was aimed at highlighting dual stance of the Centre with regard to procurement of paddy. The Minister said contradictory statements by the Centre were causing confusion among the growers. He advised the BJP not to dupe the ryots for the sake of politics. He charged that the BJP leaders were spreading false publicity against State government over buying of paddy in Vaanakalam.
Indrakaran maintained that the farmers would no more believe in BJP leaders’ statements and that the protests staged by the national party evoked a poor response from the agrarian community. He cautioned that farmers would teach a lesson to the party if it continues to adopt anti-farmer policies and cause losses to the community.
He then requested Collector Musharraf Ali Faruqui’s intervention in addressing the issue. He narrated the efforts of the State government in making agriculture profitable and cited construction of ambitious Kaleshwaram project, Rythu Bima, Rythu Bandhu and many other initiatives.
