Hyderabad: CPM leaders Sitaram Yechury and BV Raghavulu castigated the BJP for seeking to destroy Telangana’s culture, especially the secular fabric of the State. “This is a very dangerous trend. Setting aside political ideologies, all secular parties in the State should come together and fight the BJP,” they said.

The two leaders, speaking with Telangana Today on Sunday, said there was a need for united efforts to stop the BJP on its tracks. With the poll bugle sounded in five States, CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury stressed on the need for political parties, especially those at the regional level, to put up a united fight against BJP. “BJP has been making efforts to capture power in all the States and in the process, wants to decimate all the institutions. This needs to be fought and defeated,” Yechury told Telangana Today on Sunday.

Stating that the need of the hour was unity among non-BJP parties, he said the BJP’s defeat should be planned State by State based on prevailing circumstances. “That is how they have been defeated in the past and that’s how they will be defeated now also,” Yechury said exuding confidence.

“At the national level plan, all factors including alliances are decided post elections. Nothing is decided before the elections. This has never happened in the history of the country,” he said.

On the BJP’s practice of abusing leaders of opposition parties in every State, including Telangana, the CPM general secretary said: “It is BJP’s tactic and job. They stoop to the lowest of levels and this has to be condemned.”

CPM Politburo member BV Raghavulu said BJP has been constantly working towards triggering communal differences in Telangana and derive political mileage from it. “That’s the reason they are particularly taking up the Bhagyanagar issue and other small issues and blowing them out of proportion,” said Raghavulu.

All this was being done to cover up their failures, especially the step-motherly treatment towards Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Raghavulu said, adding that besides the bifurcation issues, the BJP has been usurping the rights of State governments, which is against the Constitution.
