Hyderabad/Panjim: Terming BJP as ‘Ravan’ and Congress as ‘Ram’, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday appealed to people to help Ram defeat Ravan.

He said that he was confident of Congress coming to power in Goa in 2027, and that he could sense the same energy in the state as he experienced in Telangana in 2023 ahead of the Assembly elections.

Revanth Reddy was speaking in Goa on Sunday as part of the Congress party’s Goy Rakhonn Yatra.

“The story in Indian politics has a Ram and a Ravan. Ravan is BJP, which is dividing the people, and Ram is Congress. If the people want Ravan to lose, they have to support Ram in this fight,” a release from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) here quoted him as saying.

He urged the people of Goa not to vote for smaller parties propped up by the BJP. “They are here to divide the people. Any vote for them is a vote for BJP. This time, I urge the people of Goa to vote only for the Hand symbol,” he said.

He stated that Rahul Gandhi is trying to unite the people while the BJP was trying to divide them.

Revanth Reddy was there to represent Rahul Gandhi, who was scheduled to participate in the meeting.

“Yesterday, I got a call from Shri Mallikarjun Kharge ji. He said Rahul ji is needed in Delhi, where he is leading the fight for our country. Kharge ji told me to represent Rahul ji here. Rahul ji told him that Congress party workers in Goa are waiting. I am here as a messenger and representative of Rahul ji,” he said.

Revanth Reddy stated that Rahul Gandhi is leading the youth, the opposition and the entire country in the fight against the corrupt dictatorship of the Modi government.

He commended Goa Assembly Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao and Goa Pradesh Congress President Girish Chodankar for organising the yatra.

“As Chief Minister of Telangana, I bring love and greetings from the people of Telangana. I remember how we, too, in Telangana had done a similar padayatra. I also note that there is optimism in the air here in Goa. It is the same optimism I found in Telangana ahead of the Assembly elections in 2023, when we won and formed the government there,” he said.

He said the people are clear that the BJP government cannot be allowed to come to power for a third time in Goa. They won’t leave an inch of land for the people of Goa.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government is destroying democracy in India. They have destroyed the Election Commission. They are misusing SIR to remove the votes of crores of people who are against them, especially Dalits, Adivasis and Minorities. In the past, BJP used ICE and NICE. ED and CBI were used to attack the opposition. It is not working anymore. Now, they are using the ECI itself,” said Revanth Reddy.

Revanth Reddy challenged Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant: “The whole of the Indian government is on your side. The Prime Minister and Home Minister are saying Nasha Mukt Bharat. My question is simple – why are you not implementing it in Goa? It is because you are making money off drugs.”

He asked whether this drug image was good for Goa. With every department and agency like the ED and CBI under BJP control, why can’t they control drugs in Goa? he asked.
