Hyderabad: Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao on Friday said the onus of making the Centre purchase the entire paddy crop from Telangana was on the BJP State leadership considering the assurances given by the party’s State president Bandi Sanjay as well as union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy.

He reminded that the two had, in the past, said they would make the union government buy paddy if the State government does not buy the entire crop.

He was responding to a letter written by Sanjay to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao that paddy must be purchased by the State government failing which the latter should resign. “Sanjay who encouraged farmers to cultivate paddy, assured that it was his and the BJP’s responsibility to make the Centre buy the entire paddy crop if the State government fails to do so,” the Minister said.

Speaking to mediapersons at TRS Legislative Party office here, Dayakar Rao said Sanjay should live up to his promise and make the Centre purchase the entire paddy produced in Telangana. The Minister played a recent video where Bandi Sanjay is heard telling farmers: “Don’t listen to the Chief Minister, it is my responsibility, and the BJP’s responsibility to make the Centre buy all the paddy.”

Terming the BJP government at the Centre as anti-farmer, the Minister said the BJP leaders were resorting to cheap tactics after clearly assuring that they would buy paddy if the State government doesn’t buy the entire crop. He wanted the people of Telangana especially farmers to confront the BJP leaders and force them to head to Delhi to get the paddy purchased.

“The BJP State leaders especially Bandi Sanjay and Kishan Reddy should be ashamed of themselves for making tall assurances with the promise of double engine growth. Instead, they should stop operating with double standards creating a North-South divide,” he added.

Rythu Bandhu Samithi chairman and MLC Palla Rajeshwar Reddy asserted that the Centre must procure paddy from Telangana, failing which the TRS cadre was fully prepared to take the bull by its horns. He stated that the BJP MPs from Telangana were the ones creating hurdles by writing letters to the union government against it. He asserted that the State government was ready to facilitate purchase of the entire paddy crop.
