Hyderabad: Former BJP MLC N Ramchander Rao demanded that the State government issue a white paper on the extent of acreage supported through Kaleshwaram project and urged the TRS leaders not to keep people in the dark. Reacting to Industries Minister and TRS working president KT Rama Rao’s comments, the former MLC said if Kaleshwaram project was so successful, then why over 23 lakh bore wells were still being operated in the State, he asked.
Addressing media persons here on Monday, N Ramchander Rao described the Kaleshwaram project as a Tughlaq project. Farming community has not benefited much through the project, he said, adding “I appeal to KT Rama Rao not to keep people in the dark.” Regarding increase in ground water levels in many areas across the State, he said it was due the measures taken by State government using the Central government funds, especially through Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) scheme.
“If the Telangana government was so committed for farmers’ welfare, why did it abolish subsidy on sprinklers, seeds and bore wells,” asked Ramchander Rao. Earlier in the day, BJP State president Bandi Sanjay said there was a big conspiracy in obstructing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy in Punjab recently and claimed it was not an accident. Addressing media persons at the Silent Protest programme organized by BJP workers at Chaitanyapuri here, the BJP State president said political parties, especially Congress were trying to politicize the issue to derive political mileage.
