Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

Hyderabad: Strongly condemning the violence against farmers in Nalgonda district, Ministers came down heavily on the BJP State leaders especially the party State president Bandi Sanjay and held them responsible for triggering violence in erstwhile Nalgonda district. They stated that the BJP are unable to digest the progress of farmers in the State under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and cautioned that the TRS government will not tolerate such activities.

Speaking to media persons at the TRS Legislative Party meeting on Tuesday, Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy said the BJP leaders were resorting to shameless and cheap politics by provoking farmers and causing destruction at paddy procurement centres in the name of farmers’ interaction, terrorising farmers. He ridiculed Bandi Sanjay for visiting the paddy procurement centres and criticising the State government for not buying paddy, even as the authorities were weighing the stocks. “This is a testament to the stupidity of Bandi Sanjay,” he said.

The Minister alleged that the BJP leaders took sticks and rods in an auto-rickshaw and tried to attack the farmers during Bandi Sanjay’s tour. He stated that the Telangana government was buying the Vaanakalam crop and were only demanding the BJP leaders to give clarity on purchases of Yasangi crop. “But the BJP activists are going on an attacking spree and creating havoc. Telangana farmers are cultivating paddy with a lot of difficulties. The BJP has no role to play in the development of the agriculture sector in the State. While the TRS government is implementing numerous farmer-centric schemes, farmers are striving hard to increase the yield. The BJP leaders are only engaging in vicious politics,” he added.

In a separate statement, Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy said the Telangana government was implementing a number of farmer-centric schemes, but the BJP government at the Centre was implementing anti-farmer policies. He demanded that if the BJP leaders had any commitment towards farmers of Telangana, they should convince their Delhi bosses to announce that the Centre would purchase the entire paddy yield from the State. He termed the BJP activists’ attack on farmers as inhumane. He thanked the farmers and women of erstwhile Nalgonda districts for putting up a tough fight against the hooliganism of the BJP.

SC Development Minister Koppula Eeshwar stated that the BJP was trying to flame hatred among the people of Telangana who were leading peaceful life. He termed Bandi Sanjay’s visit to paddy procurement centres as an unnecessary drama meant only to provocate farmers and create a law and order situation to gain political mileage.
