Chandupatla Janga Reddy ex-MP passes away in Hyderabad on Saturday.
Warangal: BJP senior leader and former MP Chandupatla Janga Reddy (86) passed away at his residence in Hyderabad on Saturday, following age-related ailments. He was cremated at ‘Shiva Mukthidhamam’ at the foothill of the Padmakshi Hillock in Hanamkonda in the evening.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, and several other prominent leaders from the State, mourned the death of Janga Reddy and conveyed their condolences separately to members of the bereaved family.
After bringing the mortal remains from Hyderabad, the mortal remains have been kept for the visitors to pay last respects at BJP office at Deendayal Nagar on Hunter Road in Hanamkonda. The cremation was conducted at the ‘Shiva Mukthidhamam’ at the foothill of the Padmakshi Hillock in Hanamkonda in the evening.
Born into a humble agriculture family to Chandupatla Jagga Reddy and Venkata Narasamma as the third child in Parkal in the erstwhile Warangal district in 1935, he created history by defeating PV Narasimha Rao, the former Prime Minister, from the then Hanamkonda Lok Sabha constituency in 1984. He was one among the first two BJP MPs along with AK Patel, to be elected to the Parliament in 1984, despite the Congress wave following the assasination of Indira Gandhi.
Starting his political career as a Jan Sangh activist before joining the BJP, Janga Reddy had also represented the Parkal in 1967 and the erstwhile Shayampet Assembly constituency in 1978 in the erstwhile Warangal district.
Janga Reddy had desperately and unsuccessfully tried to become the Governor or the member of the Rajya Sabha, but the Modi-Shah duo had snubbed him, according to the party sources.
In an interview to a national media house in 2018, Reddy said, “I met Modiji twice and was asked to meet Amit Shahji. I told them I am available for the Rajya Sabha or governorship… Amit Shahji baat hi nahi karte (Shah doesn’t talk to me)… So what could I have done? I came back (sic),”
Janga Reddy, who was a permanent invitee to the BJP State executive, added that the party seldom paid heed to their advice now. Janga Reddy worked as a teacher before joining politics.
In a tweet, the Prime Minister said Janga Reddy devoted his life to public service. “He was an integral part of the efforts to take the Jana Sangh and BJP to new heights of success. He made a place in the hearts and minds of several people. He also motivated many Karyakartas. He was an effective voice for the BJP at a very critical phase of the Party’s trajectory,” he said.
Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao, BJP State president and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar, TPCC president A Revanth Reddy, Huzurabad MLA Etala Rajender and others expressed grief over his demise and recollected his services to the party and upliftment of all sections of society.
