Mancherial: In a tragic incident, a 70-year-old woman who sought warmth from a bonfire was roasted alive when the blanket she used to protect herself from the cold accidentally caught fire at Peddapet village in Bheemini mandal on Wednesday.
Bheemini Sub-Inspector Komuraiah said the deceased was identified as Ade Rukmini Bai, wife of Kondu Mera. She was charred to death as the flames engulfed her in no time at her residence at around 5 am. Her husband and sister-in-law tried to rescue her but in vain. The husband buried her body in their backyard since he was unaware that a police complaint should be lodged about such incidents, he said.
Thandur Inspector K Babu Rao rushed to the spot and inquired into the incident after being informed by some locals.
Based on a complaint lodged by Panchayat Raj Secretary Ajay Kumar, a case of suspicious death was registered. The body was exhumed and post-mortem was carried out.
