Hyderabad: Bosch has been a leading supplier of technology and services in the areas of mobility solutions, industrial technology, consumer goods, and energy and building technology. With its customised products and solutions, it has been at the forefront of the transformation in India’s mobility and ‘beyond-mobility’ landscape.

The company, which is marking its 100-year journey in India is planning to invest Rs 2,000 crore by 2025-26 for localisation of advanced automotive technologies and digital space. Soumitra Bhattacharya, MD, Bosch & president, Bosch Group in India shares with Telangana Today the company’s plans for future.

Excerpts-

Hydrogen technology
Bosch believes that hydrogen has a bright future as an energy carrier and is making considerable upfront investments in this area. With the fuel cell-electric drive, we can provide an attractive and economical solution for a new type of mobility with zero local emissions.

In vehicles with fuel-cell electric drives, hydrogen is the energy source used by the fuel cell to generate electricity. This drive solution is not only used for inner-city driving; in fact, it is most convincing when covering longer distances up to a range of several hundred kilometres.

Fuel cell-electric vehicles also score points with their short refilling times of just a few minutes. The requirements profile of fuel-cell technology makes it ideally suited to heavy-duty trucks or fleet vehicles, which are used in continuous operation with short downtimes.

Space sector
Bosch Global with the help of Bosch’s SoundSee technology, it is possible to analyse information contained in emitted noises. In a research partnership, Bosch and Astrobotic are exploring ways to use the technology on the International Space Station to determine whether machines or their individual components need repair or replacement.

Acquisition strategy
Bosch is moving fast towards electro mobility. Through its investment vehicle Robert Bosch Investment Nederland BV, has acquired a 26 per cent stake in the SUN Mobility. We also invested Rs 14.8 crore in Nivaata Systems, commonly known as Routematic, a venture funded enterprise mobility company based in Bengaluru.

Bosch has partnered with Deutsche Gesellschaft fur International Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to jointly launch a green urban mobility innovation initiative for implementing sustainable and smart mobility solutions across several Indian cities. This demonstrates that not just government in India, but government in Germany too trusts us to develop innovative solutions for Indian market.

In January 2022, Bosch invested Rs 13.35 crore for a 26 per cent stake in Autozilla Solutions, a startup in Hyderabad that operates a B2B e-commerce marketplace for buying and selling auto parts.

Nurturing startups
Bosch’s very own startup Alliance programme DNA, which helps ‘D’ Discover the startups in Bosch interest area, ‘N’ Nurture startups for a period of 16 weeks and ‘A’ Align startups with Bosch business units.

The main objective of this programme is to work with innovative startups and explore the opportunity to co-create the product/solution or explore partnership to go-to-market through potential engagement models.

Solutions for future
We have close to 30,500 associates in India and the largest R&D centre outside Germany. Bosch is boosting its beyond mobility business with smart solutions based on growing infrastructure and consumer demand. Our business is in a process of profound transformation from a hardware focus to models that focus more on services and data.
