BRAOU to confer degrees on 36,145 candidates during Oct 7 convocation

Dr B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) will award degrees to 36,145 candidates at its 27th convocation on October 7 in Hyderabad. The university will also confer an honorary doctorate on noted Telangana filmmaker and cultural archivist B. Narsing Rao.

Hyderabad: Forty-three Army personnel, 27 prisoners, and 11 transgender persons are among the 36,145 candidates who are set to receive their degrees during Dr. BR Ambedkar Open University’s (BRAOU) 27th convocation ceremony scheduled for October 7 here.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, BRAOU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani said the University would confer an honorary doctorate (honoris causa) on B Narsing Rao, a renowned filmmaker, writer, painter, photographer, theatre practitioner, musician and cultural archivist, from Telangana.

Among the army personnel who will receive their degrees, four undergraduate (UG) and 39 postgraduate (PG) degrees, 37 are men and six are women.

Further, 26 male prisoners and one female inmate from Central Prison Cherlapally, Central Prison Rajahmundry and Central Prison Kadapa will be awarded 12 undergraduate and 15 postgraduate degrees.

As many as 38 gold medals will be awarded to meritorious students, including one to a prisoner who excelled in academics. Of the total gold medals, 29 have been bagged by women and nine by men.

Among the total degrees to be awarded, 17,960 are UG degrees and 18,185 are PG/diplomas/certificate programmes. So far, the university has awarded 6,27,175 degrees during the last 45 years.
