Brief yet intense thundershowers lash Hyderabad on Tuesday

Several areas in the city, especially the north-eastern parts, witnessed sharp spells of rains that lasted anywhere between 10 and 15 minutes

Hyderabad: Brief yet intense spell of thundershowers lashed various parts of Hyderabad, even as the sun continued to shine at several other locations, on Tuesday.

Several areas in the city, especially the north-eastern parts, witnessed sharp spells of rains that lasted anywhere between 10 and 15 minutes while other regions were relatively dry, except for one or two sporadic spells of very light drizzle.


The quick spells of thunderstorms were active for a short span of time in areas including Medchal-Malkajgiri, Sainikpuri, Kapra, Bhongir, Neredmet, Begumpet, Marredpally and Uppal, according to Telangana Development Planning Society (TSDPS).

Based on the real time rainfall measurement taken-up by TSDPS, Mettuguda recorded the maximum rainfall of 21.8mm followed by 18.8 mm at MCH Colony, Musheerabad and 17.5 mm at Osmania University campus.

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad on Tuesday issued an alert of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds (30-40) kmph at multiple districts including Nizamabad, Jagital, Rajanna Sirsilla, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy.

The weather is expected to remain cloudy with short spells of thundershowers along with heavy winds for the next 24 to 48 hours in Hyderabad and neighboring districts, IMD-Hyderabad forecast said.

Highest rainfall on Tuesday:

• Mettuguda area, Marredpally mandal: 21.8 mm

• MCH Colony, Musheerabad: 19.8 mm

• Osmania University: 17.8 mm

• Madhusudhan Nagar, Anandabagh, Malkajgiri: 17.3 mm

• Nacharam, Uppal mandal: 17.0 mm
