BRS accuses Congress govt of neglecting Palamuru irrigation projects

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi has stepped up its attack on the Congress government, accusing it of failing to protect Palamuru’s irrigation interests. Former minister V. Srinivas Goud alleged that Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh were diverting water illegally and urged Telangana to pursue legal remedies, while also pressing for completion of the Palamuru‑Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project.

Mahabubnagar: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has intensified its criticism of the Congress government, alleging negligence in protecting the irrigation interests of the erstwhile Palamuru region.

At a round-table meeting on pending irrigation projects organised by a Joint Action Committee here on Sunday, former minister V Srinivas Goud said the governments of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh were trying to prevent the district from receiving its rightful share of irrigation water.

He alleged that projects were being constructed without authorisation to divert water illegally from the Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme and demanded that the State government take immediate steps to stop such activities.

Goud also raised concerns over the proposed increase in the height of the Almatti dam, which would raise its storage capacity to 300 TMC. He said the Telangana government should pursue legal action on the issue.

The former Minister criticised the appointment of a former Andhra Pradesh official as an adviser to the Telangana government, claiming that the official had earlier worked against the supply of water to Telangana and could continue to act in Andhra Pradesh’s interest.

Appealing to experts and intellectuals, Goud called for a united effort to safeguard Palamuru’s interests. He said the BRS government had expanded the cultivated area from about two lakh acres to nearly ten lakh acres through irrigation projects and other measures.

He said completion of the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project would greatly benefit farmers. According to him, completing the remaining 10 percent of the work would provide irrigation to 12.32 lakh acres. He alleged that previously issued tenders had been cancelled and stressed the need to allocate funds in the next budget to complete the project.

Ala Venkateshwar Reddy assures youth

Meanwhile, former MLA Ala Venkateswar Reddy and Ala Preethi Reddy held a meeting with BRS youth leaders and activists at Annasagar village in Bhoothpur mandal.

Addressing the gathering, Venkateswar Reddy urged party workers to closely monitor the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and ensure that no eligible voter loses the right to vote.

He told the youth that their future depended on staying connected with the public and fighting for people’s issues. He also announced that the BRS would give priority to youth in the new party committees and provide them with greater opportunities as part of the organisational restructuring.
