Hyderabad: Tensions ran high in Jubilee Hills as BRS leaders accused the Congress of turning its candidate’s nomination rally into a show of rowdy culture. BRS MLAs D Sudheer Reddy and K Sanjay said the rally was similar to inter-State rowdies armed with knives in movies, leaving local residents alarmed.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan here, Sudheer Reddy said the Congress had earned the distinction of bringing together individuals with criminal records. He urged voters to choose their representative with care.
“Do the people of Jubilee Hills want a rowdy like Naveen Yadav or a gentle leader like BRS candidate Maganti Sunitha? If rowdyism is to end, BRS must win,” he affirmed.
Criticising AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi for backing the Congress, Sudheer Reddy questioned the party’s absence in Jubilee Hills bypoll.
“AIMIM fielded candidates earlier to defeat Mohammed Azharuddin. Why not now? Why contest in Bihar but not here? People are watching,” he said, adding that the area saw major development under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s tenure, but Owaisi appeared to have decided to turn a blind eye.
Refuting comparisons between BRS and BJP, he said both the parties had completely different ideologies, and had nothing in common. He also warned that BRS would resist any Congress attempt to win the byelection through bogus votes.
Supporting him, MLA K Sanjay alleged that Congress candidate Naveen Yadav’s followers were terrorising residents and BRS workers. He said while the Chief Minister was promoting gun culture, his party candidate was wielding knives. He complained that Naveen Yadav’s men were threatening the BRS local campaigners, while the police were watching in silence.
“The people of Jubilee Hills have seen movie villains before, but today, they saw them in real life,” he remarked, expressing confidence that voters would reject Congress rowdyism and elect BRS candidate Maganti Sunitha.
