Hyderabad: Tensions flared in Jubilee Hills on Thursday evening after BRS leaders alleged that police illegally detained party workers to obstruct their campaign ahead of the crucial bypoll.
According to reports, BRS leader Arun was allegedly arrested by the Madhuranagar police without a valid reason. Several BRS workers from Rahmatnagar Basti were also detained without formal charges, triggering outrage within party ranks.
Upon learning of the incident, senior BRS leaders MLC T Ravinder Rao, BRS Hanamkonda district president Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar, former MLA Korukanti Chander, and Legal Cell advisor Srikanth among others, rushed to the police station and secured their release.
Condemning the alleged illegal detention, the BRS leaders accused the Congress government of misusing the police machinery out of fear of defeat in the Jubilee Hills by-election. They said the ruling party was resorting to intimidation tactics to stifle BRS’s campaign momentum.
They staged a protest, demanding immediate action against the officials responsible for unlawful arrests.
