Hyderabad: The suspension of MLC K Kavitha from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) by party president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) has triggered strong reactions across Telangana, with cadres and leaders rallying behind him. They welcomed his decision to choose the party over family.

Kavitha’s removal followed her sharp remarks against senior leaders, including T Harish Rao and J Santosh Kumar, which the party leadership termed as anti-party. Soon after the announcement, posters of Kavitha were torn down and burnt in Husnabad, Siddipet and other towns, while banners and other material were removed from party offices in Jagtial, Metpally and Kamareddy. Party activists staged symbolic protests, declaring that her remarks had deeply hurt their sentiments.

Senior leaders, including former minister Satyavati Rathod, lauded Chandrashekhar Rao’s decision, stating that he placed the confidence of party workers above family.

“This proves that for KCR, no one, not even his daughter, is bigger than the party,” she said. Stressing that the party’s credibility was at stake, she reminded that Kavitha had been given several opportunities in the past but failed to mend her ways.

Former MLA Gongidi Sunitha and former MP Maloth Kavitha alleged that anti-party elements provoked her to make controversial remarks. MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy said the action reflected the sentiments of 60 lakh party workers and accused the Congress of attempting to sow discord within the BRS. MLA KP Vivekanand called Chandrashekhar Rao’s decision a sacrifice for the party.

Other leaders, including MLC Dasoju Sravan and senior leaders Gampa Govardhan, Bajireddy Govardhan and RS Praveen Kumar, described the step as painful but necessary. They said Kavitha was indirectly endorsing allegations made by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on the Kaleshwaram project and had hurt the morale of party cadre. They reiterated that no individual could be larger than the party.
