Hyderabad: BRS chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Friday paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao on the eve of his birth anniversary on Saturday.
He hailed the former Prime Minister as a statesman who not only rescued India’s economy during difficult circumstances but also upheld the nation’s dignity on the global stage.
Remembering Narasimha Rao, who hailed from Telangana, Chandrashekhar Rao said the former was a multifaceted personality known as a polyglot, literary scholar, political strategist, and the architect of India’s economic reforms.
He said though for a short term, Narasimha Rao left an indelible mark as a reformist Chief Minister of the united Andhra Pradesh and continued to be an inspiration to date.
The BRS chief recalled several initiatives of the previous BRS government to honour the former Prime Minister’s contributions. These included the renaming of Necklace Road to PV Marg, the installation of a 16-foot bronze statue, and officially observing his birth and death anniversaries.
“Understanding the aspirations of people of Telangana, the BRS government made all efforts to ensure that Narasimha Rao got due recognition. PV is Telangana’s pride,” he asserted.
He also pointed out that the BRS nominated Narasimha Rao’s daughter and educationist Surabhi Vani Devi as MLC, as a gesture to continue his political legacy.
During the BRS regime, the Telangana State Assembly also passed a resolution recommending PV Narasimha Rao for Bharat Ratna. Besides developing Vangara and Laknepalli into tourist spots to remember the former Prime Minister’s association, he said efforts were made to install his statues in Warangal, Karimnagar, and Telangana Bhavan in Delhi.
“Honouring PV is honouring the greatness of Telangana. Promoting his legacy is our tribute,” he added.
