BRS complains to DGP over AI-generated, morphed content

The BRS Legislature Party has sought a cybercrime probe and legal action over allegedly fake, morphed and AI-generated content targeting its leaders. The party also demanded action over alleged attacks on BRS legislators and remarks concerning K Chandrashekhar Rao

Hyderabad: The BRS Legislature Party sought an immediate probe and legal action against those allegedly circulating morphed, fake and AI-generated images and defamatory content targeting its MLAs and public representatives on social media and other digital platforms. A party delegation lodged a complaint with DGP (Law & Order) Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat in this regard on Wednesday.

They demanded cases against those who allegedly attempted to attack BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao’s Erravelli residence and against MLA Veerlapally Shankar over his alleged remarks wishing for the former Chief Minister’s death.

Opposition Leader in the Council S Madhusudhana Chary, along with BRS MLAs D Sudheer Reddy, Bandaru Laxma Reddy and Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, alleged that the content was being deliberately created and circulated to divert public attention from the alleged attack and misbehaviour involving BRS women legislators and other representatives at the Assembly two days ago.

They also alleged that no action had been taken against the officials responsible for the alleged attack on BRS legislators at the Assembly gate on Monday or against those who allegedly went to attack BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao’s Erravelli residence, despite the BRS lodging complaints.

The BRSLP members sought a cybercrime probe to identify those creating, uploading and circulating the content, along with a technical forensic examination and preservation of digital evidence, account details, URLs, timestamps and metadata. They also sought action under applicable laws relating to cybercrime, defamation and the dissemination of false information.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajeshwar Reddy alleged that the ruling Congress was using AI-morphed images for diversion politics, while valuable Assembly time meant for public issues was being wasted.

Sudheer Reddy alleged that AI-generated images were being used to portray him as using BRS women legislators as a shield during the Assembly incident, though he was standing in front of them for their protection. He demanded action over the alleged manhandling of women representatives.
