Hyderabad: Condemning the arrest of its leaders and the Congress government’s constitutional violations, the BRS has decided to stage a massive demonstration at the iconic 125-foot statue of Dr BR Ambedkar near Necklace Road on Friday. Commemorating the death anniversary of Dr Ambedkar, the BRS leaders will pay tributes to the Constitution’s architect and expose the ‘murder of democracy’ by the Congress government in Telangana.

BRS MLAs, MLCs, MPs, elected representatives and activists will assemble at Telangana Bhavan by 9 am before proceeding to the protest site. The protest is being held opposing the arrest of BRS leaders including T Harish Rao, G Jagadish Reddy, Padi Kaushik Reddy and others for questioning the government’s actions.

Making an announcement in this regard, former Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy pointed out the neglect of the Ambedkar statue, a landmark project initiated by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. “The statue, a testament to Ambedkar’s vision, has been neglected for a year. Tomorrow, we will stand by it as a witness to democracy’s betrayal in Telangana,” he stated.

He condemned the arrests, calling them a gross violation of constitutional rights. “Even basic rights like obtaining an FIR copy are being denied. This is nothing short of an emergency rule,” he said, urging intellectuals to rise against the dictatorship of Revanth Reddy.

Before his arrest, Harish Rao slammed the State government’s actions, stating that there was no democracy in Telangana which was under a demonic rule masquerading as people’s governance. “Revanth Reddy is not only trampling the Constitution but also targeting our leaders with illegal arrests and cases,” he said.

BRS MLC K Kavitha also criticised the Congress government, demanding the immediate release of detained leaders and withdrawal of baseless cases. She said the government was orchestrating politically motivated arrests to suppress dissent. “A day will come when the people will turn against this oppressive regime,” she warned.

BRS leader RS Praveen Kumar raised concerns over the arrest of the BRS MLAs and leaders, terming it a conspiracy by the Congress government to evade confrontation with them in the Assembly which was scheduled to commence from Monday. “This government, led by a Chief Minister who was once jailed in the Vote-for-Note case, is weaponising the State machinery against opposition leaders,” he said, adding that while MLA Kaushik Reddy was fearing a threat to his life, the Revanth Reddy government was tapping the phones of opposition leaders as well as those in the ruling party including Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy among others.

Former Ministers P Sabitha Indra Reddy, S Niranjan Reddy, Mohd Mahmood Ali, Errabelli Dayakar Rao, V Sunitha Laxma Reddy, MLAs Palla Srinivas Reddy, KP Vivekananda, BRS leaders Dasoju Sravan, Errolla Srinivas, and several others condemned the arrests. They demanded for the immediate release of the BRS leaders.
