Hyderabad: BRS leaders on Tuesday slammed the Congress government for failing to conduct local body elections, accusing it of ignoring democratic norms and running the State like a monarchy.
Speaking at Telangana Bhavan, senior leader Kyama Mallesh alleged that Panchayat Raj Minister Seethakka had proved “incompetent” by not holding elections or continuing rural development works, and demanded her resignation.
“The tenure of MPTCs and ZPTCs ended more than a year ago, but Revanth Reddy is avoiding elections in the name of reservations, fearing defeat,” he charged.
Mallesh further accused Congress leaders of usurping cooperative society posts by extending terms and sidelining BRS-backed chairpersons. “If the government has courage, let it hold elections instead of hiding behind excuses,” he said.
BRS leader Y Sathish Reddy targeted Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for breaking promises made at Medaram. He said the Chief Minister, who “swore on numerous Gods and Goddesses, including Sammakka-Saralamma,” had failed to implement the Congress manifesto, particularly the pledge to waive farm loans.
He added that public anger was growing and warned that the Congress would face the “wrath of the Medaram deities” for betraying people’s trust.
