Adilabad: Former Minister Jogu Ramanna demanded the State government to implement enhanced Rythu Bharosa investment support of Rs 15,000 per acre as promised at the time of polls. He along with cadres of the BRS staged a sit-in in front of the bus stand here on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Ramanna dubbed the situation of the farmers as a snapped kite. He regretted that the farmers were struggling to grow crops as they were denied investment support for the last two seasons. He wanted the government to provide investment support of Rs 15,000 per acre immediately. He alleged that Congress had duped the farmers.
The former Minister further said that the farmers were facing a severe crisis under the Congress rule. Crops loans were not waived off in a full-fledged manner. The government was ignoring the major challenges of the public. He faulted it for failing to provide ration cards, social security pensions and basic amenities. He stated that the BRS would always stand by the farmers and the public.
Earlier, mild tension prevailed for a while when police prevented the activists from burning the effigy of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy as part of the protest. The police and the protesters jostled each other when the police tried to shift Ramanna to some other place. The activists raised slogans criticising the government for using the police to suppress the voice of the Opposition.
BRS leaders Ijjagiri Narayana, Mettu Prahlad, Parveen, K Premala, Ashok Swamy, Pavan Naik, Konda Ganesh, Annela Vasanth, Ugge Vittal, Chennai Sai and others were present.
