Telangana farmers still await their turn despite announcement of fourth phase of loan waiver
The agriculture officials were finding it difficult to convince the farmers. While the government has announced beneficiary lists in four phases so far, a good number of farmers did not find their names in any of these lists
Sangareddy: Nearly a month after the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced the fourth phase of the crop loan waiver, the farmers, whose names featured in the list, were seen roaming around agriculture offices, banks and local leaders enquiring about the status of the loan waiver amount.
While the 11,301 farmers in the Sanagreddy district got a Rs 110 crore loan waiver, 9,063 farmers, eligible for Rs 95 crore, in the Siddipet district, found their names in the fourth phase of the list.
Over 7,000 farmers, eligible for Rs 56 crore, have found their names in the list of beneficiaries in Medak district.
However, they continued to wait for the government to deposit the amount in their bank accounts and get a fresh loan. After Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had announced the implementation of the fourth phase during a public meeting on November 30, the farmers were seen enquiring by visiting the banks, and agriculture officers every day.
The agriculture officials were finding it difficult to convince the farmers. While the government has announced beneficiary lists in four phases so far, a good number of farmers did not find their names in any of these lists.
The farmers, who borrowed more than Rs 2 lakhs, did not find their names in the beneficiaries list though they paid the excess amount to banks following the suggestion of the government.
The widows, and unmarried individuals aged above 18 years also did not find the names in the list because their family was not determined. The agriculture officials on the condition of anonymity said that the list was too long. They nearly amount to 35 to 40 per cent in each village.
