Hyderabad: The BRS has lodged a complaint with the cybercrime police over a fake show-cause notice circulated on social media in the party’s name, purportedly accusing BRSLP deputy leader T Harish Rao of violating protocol.
BRS general secretary Soma Bharat Kumar, accompanied by a team of lawyers, approached the police at the Hyderabad City Police Commissioner’s office in Basheerbagh, seeking action over the fabricated letter. The document purportedly carried the party’s name and a disciplinary committee’s notice to Harish Rao, with Bharat Kumar’s signature allegedly forged on it.
Speaking to the media, Bharat Kumar said no show-cause notice had been issued to Harish Rao. He accused the ruling Congress of circulating the fake document to divert attention from questions being raised against the government. “The fake show-cause notice was created in my name and is being circulated as though I had issued it to Harish Rao,” he said, alleging that the document was being shared through Congress social media accounts.
He said the party would file a criminal complaint and demanded punishment for those responsible for creating and circulating the document. He expressed confidence that the police would conduct an impartial inquiry.
The BRS denied taking any disciplinary action against Harish Rao over the alleged protocol violation and termed the notice fabricated. The party warned that it would pursue legal remedies if the police failed to act, adding that it would not allow the alleged misinformation campaign to go unchallenged.
