Harish Rao hits back at CM Revanth, seeks Assembly debate on welfare claims
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has launched a sharp counter to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s claims on welfare and development, demanding that he convene the Assembly for an open debate. BRS leader T Harish Rao accused the Congress government of neglecting irrigation projects, misrepresenting employment figures, and making misleading claims on farm schemes and power supply.
Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has given a point-by-point counter to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s claims on welfare and development. It also demanded that he convene the Assembly to discuss his claims.
BRS Deputy Floor Leader T Harish Rao strongly criticised the Chief Minister for resorting to personal attacks instead of speaking about Telangana’s development and welfare.
Countering the Chief Minister’s remarks at a public meeting in Sangareddy on Independence Day, he said former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao used his Independence Day addresses to speak about development, irrigation and power. In contrast, Revanth Reddy had failed to present any meaningful account of development in Sangareddy district, he alleged.
Addressing media persons at Siddipet, the former Minister alleged that the Congress government was neglecting the Sangameshwar and Basaveshwar irrigation projects initiated during the BRS government. The Chief Minister did not speak a word about the progress of these projects, he said.
Referring to ration cards, Harish Rao said the State government had itself stated in the Assembly that the BRS government had issued 6,47,479 ration cards, benefiting around 20 lakh people. He said this contradicted the claims being made by the Chief Minister at public meetings.
He said the Congress government had earlier imposed a ceiling of 20 kg of rice per family. The BRS government later removed the ceiling and provided six kilograms of rice per person, irrespective of family size.
Harish Rao also challenged the Chief Minister’s claim regarding employment generation. He said that, in response to a question raised by him in the Assembly, the government had stated that only around 16,000 jobs had been provided after the Congress came to power. The Chief Minister, however, was now claiming that 70,000 jobs had been provided.
“Revanth Reddy should apologise to unemployed youth if the figures being cited at public meetings are incorrect,” Harish Rao demanded.
He recalled the Congress promise to provide two lakh jobs within one year. He also challenged the Chief Minister to visit Ashok Nagar, Dilsukhnagar and Osmania University areas without security personnel and face unemployed youth directly.
He further alleged that fee reimbursement payments had remained pending for around two and a half years, affecting lakhs of students. He questioned why the government was announcing new payments without explaining when the accumulated arrears would be cleared.
Regarding Rythu Bandhu, Harish Rao accused the Chief Minister of making misleading claims that the Congress government had provided more financial assistance than the BRS government.
He said the BRS government had provided Rs. 14,743 crore under Rythu Bandhu during 2022-23. The Congress government had provided only Rs. 5,557 crore in 2024-25 and around Rs. 11,000 crore in 2025-26, he said.
“Revanth Reddy took an oath before God that he would waive farm loans up to Rs. 2 lakh. Let him visit his own village without his security personnel. If it is proved that every eligible farmer in his village received the promised loan waiver, I will resign. If not, will he resign?” Harish Rao asked.
On the Chief Minister’s claim of providing 24-hour power to agriculture, Harish Rao said he had personally inspected the logbooks at the Raghavapur, Narsapur and Bommalaramaram substations. He alleged that agricultural three-phase power was not being supplied for more than 10 to 11 hours.
He said farmers were also struggling to obtain urea and DAP fertilisers. He alleged that the online fertiliser booking system was not functioning properly in several villages.
“Questions are being raised by Congress MLAs regarding corruption and commissions. Revanth Reddy should respond to these charges rather than resorting to personal attacks,” Rao demanded.
He also challenged the Chief Minister to convene the Assembly and hold an open debate on farm loan waiver, Rythu Bandhu and employment. He said the government should place all figures and records before the House.
