Adilabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has launched a campaign to collect signatures from farmers in Adilabad district demanding that the State government immediately release the Rythu Bharosa benefit.
The signature campaign was launched by former minister Jogu Ramanna at Ankoli village in Adilabad Rural mandal on Saturday.
Addressing farmers on the occasion, Ramanna demanded that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy apologise to farmers for allegedly mocking the Rythu Bharosa scheme. He urged the Chief Minister to immediately release the benefit and the bonus for crops grown by farmers in Telangana.
Ramanna alleged that the Chief Minister recently mocked the scheme, which he described as an innovative initiative meant to support farmers, and said the remarks had insulted its beneficiaries. He demanded that Revanth Reddy tender an apology to farmers and accused the government of neglecting distressed farmers.
Why is the BRS protesting over Rythu Bharosa?
Ramanna recalled that the scheme was introduced in 2018 by the then Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to support the agrarian community.
According to him, the initiative was conceived to assist farmers who were then facing severe distress and financial difficulties. However, he alleged that the present government was ignoring the challenges faced by farmers and failing to address their problems.
He charged that the government’s approach was pushing farmers into distress and forcing some of them to take extreme steps.
What is the purpose of the farmers’ signature campaign?
As part of the protest, the BRS collected signatures from farmers in Ankoli village. Party leaders said the signatures would be sent to the Chief Minister as a mark of protest against the delay in releasing the Rythu Bharosa benefit.
They stated that the financial assistance was meant to help farmers purchase agricultural inputs such as fertilisers, seeds and other materials required for crop cultivation.
The BRS leaders alleged that the government was intentionally delaying the release of the benefit meant for farmers.
What BRS leaders are saying about the Chief Minister?
Party leaders claimed that Revanth Reddy was speaking about the scheme only during elections in an attempt to divert the attention of voters.
They said the State government should release the Rythu Bharosa benefit immediately to support farmers.
